Active Assailant incidents tend to take place in heavily populated and confined areas, such as schools, workplaces, nightclubs, and churches.

In the US, there are mandatory requirements for meeting their duty of care obligations by prevention work and training but additional pre-incident action such as reviewing and testing plans, simulations and drills, physical security recommendations, training and awareness education can dramatically increase the chances of victim survival.
